Module 12 · Lesson 1
What Boonora Is
"One rewards currency, earned at any business on the network, spent at any other. Local businesses get what airlines and hotel chains have had for decades."
Video narration script (ready to record)
Let's start with the one sentence you need to be able to say in your sleep: Boonora is a private rewards network for local businesses.
Every loyalty program you've ever seen is a closed loop. Buy ten coffees, get one free — at that coffee shop. It rewards the customers a business already has, and it does nothing to bring in anyone new.
Boonora breaks the loop open. Customers earn Boons — that's the currency, one Boon is worth one cent — every time they check out with their phone number or card at a participating business; each business sets its own earn rate. A massage earns Boons. A croissant earns Boons. And they can spend those Boons at ANY participating business. The café's regulars discover the salon. The clinic's patients discover the bakery. Every business on the network is marketing for every other one.
The customer's phone number is the account. No app to download, and no plastic card required. They can add a card to Apple Wallet if they like, text BAL to the Boonora number to hear their balance, and they get a welcome bonus the day they join.
Members climb: Boonora+ at five thousand lifetime Boons earns faster and unlocks member pricing — up to five percent off at participating businesses; Elite at ten thousand earns faster still. And there's Premium — nineteen dollars a month — for twenty percent off at every participating business, from day one.
That's the product. A currency, a network, a phone number. Everything else in this module is detail.
Shot list (what to show on screen while narrating)
1. Title card: Boonora mark on obsidian.
2. Animated map: three storefronts on a block, Boons flowing between them.
3. Phone screen: the member card with a balance and QR.
4. Tier ladder graphic: Member → Boonora+ → Elite, with Premium beside it.
5. Close on the one-sentence definition.
The pieces, in plain words
| Piece | What it is | Why it matters in a pitch |
|---|---|---|
| Boons | The reward currency. 1 Boon = 1¢. Earned as a percentage of what the customer spends. | Simple to explain; the customer sees real money. |
| The network | Every business on Boonora accepts every other business's Boons. | The only loyalty program that brings in OTHER businesses' customers. |
| Phone-number account | The number is the identity; no app, no card required. | Zero friction at the counter — one tap on a texted link; sign-up takes seconds. |
| Tiers | Member → Boonora+ (5,000 lifetime Boons) → Elite (10,000). Faster earning as they climb. | Gamified, automatic, nothing for staff to manage. |
| Premium | $19/mo or $180/yr. 20% off at every participating business, from day one. | A reason for a customer to pick a Boonora business over the one next door. |
| Gift cards & referrals | Digital gift cards sold in a minute; referral cashback for bringing friends. | Cash up front and a self-funding word-of-mouth engine. |
Key phrase: "A loyalty program markets to your customers. A rewards network markets to everyone else's customers too."
Talking points
- Lead with the network, not the pointsPoints are boring; every business has them. 'Your customers can spend their rewards at the salon down the street — and theirs can spend at yours' is what makes an owner sit up.
- Make it concrete with money'One Boon is one cent. Ten percent back means a $100 massage puts $10 of spendable rewards in their pocket — usable anywhere on the network.'
- Say 'no app' earlyOwners have watched customers refuse to download apps. The phone number IS the account — that removes the objection before it's raised.
- Know the ladderMember, Boonora+, Elite, Premium. If you can explain those four in one breath, you're ready for Lesson 2.
